Milwaukee Hand Tools

Milwaukee has a new line of hand tools, geared toward professional craftsmen. Of course we have them all available on our website, but here are a couple of highlights and an excerpt from their press release:

9/1/2011
Milwaukee® Further Invests In Hand Tool Expansion

MILWAUKEE, WI- Following the successful launch of their new Hand Tool business in 2010, Milwaukee Tool continues to rapidly expand the tool line with the launch of several new products in October 2011. With a focus on delivering innovative solutions that increase productivity, the new products will fall into three new categories which include Pliers, Snips, and PEX Cutting. Committed to their core user, Milwaukee will incorporate features into each Hand Tool that provide application specific solutions for the Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, MRO, and Remodeling trades.

“One example of the advances in Hand Tool design that will set Milwaukee Tool apart is our 6 in 1 Combination Wire Pliers.  These pliers feature a new-to-world design that incorporates all functions of long nose pliers, wire strippers, and reaming/deburring tools,” says Albrecht. “We have replaced three tools in the user’s pouch with one Milwaukee Hand Tool;  creating less weight to haul around, at a better value…a prime example of what we call Disruptive Innovation,” says Albrecht

Backed by Milwaukee’s Limited Lifetime Warranty, each of the new products is drop forged, machined for maximum precision, and treated to resist rust. Durable over-molded grips add comfort and last longer than traditional rubber dipped handles.

Dedicated to delivering advanced solutions to increase productivity, Milwaukee’s Hand Tool category will continue to grow and offer innovative products.

Amana Tool’s Latest Router Bit

Hot off the presses from:

Amana Tool

Amana Tool’s CNC Compression Spiral Router Bits Deliver Superior Results in Melamine & Laminated Materials – Innovative tool design and special-grade carbide help users avoid chip out in furniture-making, cabinetry and closet manufacturing applications

The bits are designed for CNC applications that require high feed rates and clean finishes, such as furniture, cabinetry and closet manufacturing.

Amana’s unique compression router bit geometry helps prevent chip out on the top and bottom of the material by pushing chips down and ejecting them up during the same cutting pass. Made from a special carbide grade, the bits last longer than standard router bits, especially when working with abrasive materials such as laminated MDF and melamine, and deliver an optimal edge finish. The superior performance also ensures CNC users the most yield from each sheet of material. Each compression router bit is manufactured to Amana’s stringent quality standards.

Frank Misiti, technical director at Amana Tool, said, “Chip out is a common problem when working with laminated MDF, melamine and other abrasive materials. Amana’s compression spiral router bits help furniture makers and other manufacturers overcome this obstacle through innovative tool design and our special-grade carbide that deliver superior performance while saving time and materials.”

Amana’s solid carbide CNC compression spiral router bits are available in diameters ranging from 1/4” to 3/4”. Click here to view Amana bits at Ace Tool!

Shop class, 1921

The Next Generation

How important are shop classes in high schools? Are they just a thing of the past? Obviously, most of us in the tool community would advocate their value, but will principals and superintendents and school boards keep them? (Did you have one? Does it still exist? Is it offered to your kids?) Amid budget cuts, will they survive?

This article isn’t brand new but where else are kids learning these basic skills? Some are still around but have skewed toward technology. Should we be relying on organizations or should it be in specialty schools or taught at home?

We’d love to hear your input.

Getting it all in there

Tiny House Movement

Homeowners or homebuilders: have you been following the small house movement? Here’s an interview with Jay Shafer of Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, and a New York Times article from a few years ago. It’s human nature to be curious about living in 100 square feet, but what are the implications for the build? Has anyone ever worked on a tiny house (either professionally or personally)? What is different than normal home construction?

There’s also a “Small House Society” out there. In one couple’s experience, they were able to use higher-end materials since they were using less of them. Their goal was to stick to natural materials like wood and metal and avoid plastics when possible. They even used sheep’s wool insulation. Have you used these materials? Any reviews?
