Using Tools CAN Be Your Day Job

Whether you’re a weekend warrior completing do-it-yourself ventures or a full-time professional, you know what it feels like to power through a project and get the job done.

For those of you past, present or future professionals in trades using power tools, we want to hear from you today. What resources did you use to figure out your path? Did you have a mentor or did you stumble upon it?

We found two online resources that may help young folks (or people looking to switch sectors) discover the world of construction and trades. Have you used these? What else would you recommend to people interested in these fields?

Construct My Future offers information about schools, jobs, scholarships and more for students, teachers and parents. We’re glad to see this field positioned as a viable path for young people!

How important are shop classes in high schools? Are they just a thing of the past? Obviously, most of us in the tool community would advocate their value, but will principals and superintendents and school boards keep them? (Did you have one? Does it still exist? Is it offered to your kids?) Amid budget cuts, will they survive?

This article isn’t brand new but where else are kids learning these basic skills? Some are still around but have skewed toward technology. Should we be relying on organizations or should it be in specialty schools or taught at home?

We’d love to hear your input.
